1971 A75RV NE00205

Pictured as it was when Allan purchased it in November 2008.
This is an authenticated 'RV', being one of only 200 made by BSA for homologation purposes. I believe many had their frames repainted in black, being the look most owners preferred. Now the grey frames are popular because of their originality and rarity.
The bike was purchased from an owner in Christchurch after an extensive rebuild in 2008. A number of problems surfaced during Allan's initial ownership, and it eventually came to me in January 2011 to have remedial work done, although we were still unsure what that might involve.
You can read an account of that work here.
As stated, the bodywork got swapped with that of another MkII that Allan had bought out of the USA, as the two colour schemes worked better with the other frame colours.
The final move was to fit a new seat with the raised rear section, which gave it a slightly different look and was a much better example than the one it came with.

The heavy clutch made the bike a bit difficult to live with in town, but living in Blenheim meant that most riding was out of town in a brief distance.
The bike came back to me most recently as part of the process of getting them all prepared for sale, and it turned out that this bike had no legal number plate, as Allan used to swap plates so that whatever bike he was currently riding had "the" current plate. An old trick we learned in the army..
Readying a bike for compliance means measuring all the brake linings, replacing any cracked tyres, basically doing all the maintenance that bikes in collections seldom get as they are not used enough.
So that all happened and the process is documented here.
The greatest improvement made was definitely the clutch, although it is good that it has new oil, chain and sprocket to go with its new number plate to a new owner.

All recorded details are in order with this one - other than that the colour change has not been notified for the NZTA records. A phone call sorts this out.
Rego is on hold.
