Thank you to all of you who attended Andy's Service, sent cards, flowers, did baking, housework, visited Andy or sent messages of support during the last months of his life.
In September 2008 our lives were turned upside down when Andy was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM), a very nasty and aggressive Brain Tumour. This condition is incurable at this time. The money we collected at the Service is going to be given to Andy’s Oncologist Dr Bridget Robinson to use for research in her Department. To all of you who donated money, Thank you so much! We will continue to fund raise for this wonderful Department at our Hospital. I am sure Bridget extended Andy's life with her innovative treatment. Andy was also a model Patient; he tolerated the treatments so well and never complained.
We were devastated; you always think this is not going to happen to you. We decided to make the most of every moment we had, and we did. We have done so much in the last 21 months. Andy and I were humbled on our journey by the generosity of people. Everyone pitched in to help us. Benn stepped into my shoes at work, which allowed us to take the time to spend together. Matt gave up work in Melbourne and came home for 8 weeks to help us landscape Hatton Court. Our camping neighbours backed the boat for me, the next door neighbours cooked meals, mowed lawns, friends rode his beloved Rocket 3 on the International Rally, so he could attend as a pillion passenger, the list is endless. Our journey of 21 months was full of love laughter and joy. Andy was so courageous in his fight to live as long as he could. His positive attitude was a factor in how well he was through his journey.
The photo was taken by our son Matt about 2 years ago. This wonderful bay is where Andy's Ashes will rest. It is in the Able Tasman National Park, in a place we as a family have had so many happy days, and will continue to do so every year. Andy chose this special place last year.
So once again to you all thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you did for us on our Journey. You have all helped in so many ways and touched our lives and hearts.
Andy's last words were "It’s been wonderful". And it was.
