1972 A75R CG00630

I first saw this MkII Rocket 3 in Kaikoura on the day that everybody rode to Blenheim for the Hawkesbury races weekend in the early 80's.
It was of interest mostly for having disc brakes stitched on both ends, rather than having a dead hawk hanging off it.
Allan later purchased it with its conical hub rear end restored, but it was a very unhappy unit from the get-go, and he gave the engine to a friend to investigate.
He recovered it many years later having made no progress, and he brought it to me to see if we could mend it.

As purchased, the frame had been freshly painted, there were new Hagon shocks, and the front end had been completely swapped to Triumph to allow the use of the disc brake.
However, when I stripped it, the motor was the nastiest piece of butchered scrap you could imagine, and I told Allan it would kill us both to try and restore it.
The write up I did at the time is here.
I still have the partially dismantled bottom end in my workshop, which will be included with the rolling frame when sold.

As can be seen, there is a 5-speed gear cluster which would be a welcome enhancement to any 4-speed triple, but perhaps wasted on this engine.
The numbers were all present and correct, but I doubt that even the numbered left side crankcase is still viable.
Wahey.!
The number plate is still current and rego on hold.

Would make a lovely home for a T150 engine...
